MIRANDA
Carrara & Matta celebrates 70 years:
Limited edition chair, not just a toilet seat!

"Starting from the concept so dear to the Dadaists, with this chair's project I approach the ready-made. The reusing of an item created for a purpose and thought to give form and function to another. The challenge was inspired by the movie "The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie" by Buñuel".

~ Carlo Tinti

Miranda, designed by Carlo Tinti, is the symbolic chair made for the 70th Anniversary of Carrara & Matta, to be celebrated during the next CERSAIE in Bologna. Much more than a seat, Miranda is a concept that is the result of provocation, inspiration and technological research.

The project, born by the eclectic creativity of the designer Carlo Tinti, is inspired by the Dadaist lesson that decontextualises everyday objects and carries them in a different dimension, where there are different meanings, connotations and interpretations.

Just as Duchamp's Fountain, Miranda plays with the viewer, playing multi-meaning, born in a dimension where dreams and reality interweave in an indissoluble mélange. The precious message is instantly perceived: to sit down on this chair means becoming a guest of artistic creation.

And here, in line with the life philosophy of the designer "seriously fun, fun work," a toilet seat forgets its original function and becomes real furniture.

Miranda strikes with its clear and original appearance. To be consistent with its uniqueness, Carrara & Matta chose Firenze 2.1, the high end toilet seat that fits the majority of standard pans. It is characterized by soft and elegant lines, but it is also strong and resistant because it is made entirely of Durolux®, high quality thermoset material.

The light and essential shape, the perfect synthesis of design and technological research, which has always been distinguished the Firenze line, becomes now a real furnishing accessory. That's how Miranda comes to life: it is not only a toilet seat but also a real chair!

The use of ready-made combines itself with visionary surrealism: the name Miranda results from the imaginary republic quoted in the movie - one of the most famous signed by Luis Buñuel - where one diplomat, one of the main characters, is proud to represent it as an elitarian place. The chair, in keeping with the elitarian theme: is produced in limited edition of 100 pieces.

In addition the etymology of the name is from the Latin verb "mirari", which means admire, look with wonder, to emphasize the wonder and surprise that this chair raises at first look.
